Kelly Smith takes over as principal at Oakley Park Elementary

The Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ Board of Education appointed Kelly Smith the new principal at Oakley Park Elementary during the May 23, 2024 meeting.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be returning to Oakley Park Elementary as principal,” said Smith. “I knew Oakley Park was a special place from the moment I stepped into a classroom there as a teacher six years ago. The positive impact that Oakley Park had on me never left my mind or my heart, and it has served as a guidepost for my work at Sarah G. Banks.”

Smith has served as assistant principal for the past three years at Sarah G. Banks Middle School. Prior to that, Smith taught elementary and middle school across the district for 22 years, which included a stop at Oakley Park, and she was the head teacher at Keith Elementary in her final year before becoming an administrator.

"For the past three years, Mrs. Smith has been an outstanding assistant principal at Sarah G. Banks Middle School,” said Dr. Michael Lonze, incoming Superintendent of Schools. “With 22 years of teaching experience across our school district, including prior experience at Oakley Park Elementary, she has consistently demonstrated her dedication and excellence in education. I am confident that her extensive experience and commitment to our students will benefit the Oakley Park community."
