WLCSD holds 25th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ students, families and the community gathered at Walled Lake Northern on Monday, January 15, for its 25th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration.
This year’s theme was “You Belong”. Students from all 19 schools created artwork, which was on display, about what that theme meant to them.
Walled Lake Central senior Ella Fried and Pleasant Lake Elementary 5th-grader Arbor Zellweger received the Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award, which honors individuals annually who are true friends of multicultural diversity in our school district and community.
Kevin Szawala, also known as “Mr. Peace”, delivered a passionate message of kindness, love and understanding as the keynote speaker. This year’s program also featured music by the Clifford H. Smart Middle School orchestra, Walled Lake Central chamber singers, and Walled Lake Elementary’s Glee Club.
